Developer / DBA / Systems Architect

This was an exellent job - interesting work, lovely people, a fun environment.

Over the space of about two years, I wrote the backends (and quite a lot of the front-ends) for two public sites and an intranet which ran out of bespoke application/plugin frameworks.

The bulk of the interactive modules are in the logged in section - these included :

  • multi-dimensional quizzes
  • 360 quizzes
  • a variety of questionnaires
  • a flash/HTML fronted forum
  • flash/html-fronted blogs
  • myspace style buddy-system
  • complex permission systems
  • instant messaging
  • automated emails
  • extensive administration systems for all content
  • bug-tracking software
  • traffic monitoring software
  • database synchronisation
  • user feedback collection and reporting
  • graph rendering
  • invoicing
  • todo list tracking
  • event-calendaring
  • mail-shot software
  • booking systems
  • ecommerce
  • recurring subscriptions
  • reporting and management tools
  • work flow / todo lists with email reminders
  • client login / extranet

There were about 30 staff using the CRM system / feedback / invoicing system daily, and about 50,000 registered users for the web-site.

I wrote the entire back-end of all of these systems, and most of the HTML/CSS. All graphics and overall design were done by an in-house design team. In 2006 all development was brought on-site/in-house.

The technologies used :

  • PHP
  • MySql
  • Apache
  • Linux and Windows
  • XML / XSLT
  • Flash Integration
  • HTML / CSS
  • Javascript
